CaF₂ with unsurpassed properties
The outstanding importance of fluorite for the color correction of optical systems is due to an extremely low dispersion, a high anomalous partial dispersion and an even greater Abbé number compared to the fluorophosphate glasses.
Advantages vs. to fluorophosphate glasses
Fluorite allows with the selected mating optical glasses an extremely broadband correction of aperture and Gaussian error, whereby only the transmittance of the optical glasses limits the usable spectral range.
Transmission from VUV to IR
Another important property of CaF₂ is the high transmission over a very wide spectral range from 130nm to10µm (depending on the substrate thickness).
CaF₂ – an ideal optical material
Fluorite is physically and chemically stable and resistant to water and chemicals.
Fluorite optics up to 400mm aperture
Since CaF₂ is available in much larger dimensions than the FK or ED glasses, fluorite optics with apertures up to 400mm can be produced.
